So this was the first full day in school for Joy and sadly I cannot give that optimistic post I wished I would give.
Joy was really excited about going to the big school. She has been waiting for this day for months. Nursery did a very good preparation work. And yesterday we had a 45 mins introduction when she could look around in the school playground and in the class room and she loved what she saw there.
So there was not much sleep at night as she was so excited to go to school today that she woke me up at 5:30 and kept asking when she could leave to school.
Then the entry went well. We bumped into her friend and they went in together. I must confess with the queuing and wearing mask then no time to say anything to anyone I got a bit anxious of this whole school experience.
Then after school I picked her up and she said it was a good day and they got ice cream for lunch and beans and potato but there was something yucky on the plate too. Then apparently they were happy first (one of her good friends from nursery is in the same class) but then her friend Z got shy and sad and Joy followed her but Z did not want her to follow. And then she got shy and sad too. Then one of the teachers took Z and a boy to somewhere but they did not take her because they said she was fine. However she was not. And there was not enough space outdoors and indoors to play compared to nursery garden and room. And altogether she does not want to go back to school on Monday and misses her friends from nursery and the other friends too. So I only can hope this will improve. Because one of my concerns with this school was that the outdoor space being too small and lacking of facilities.
I am also not really impressed by the admins. If I did not hear from other parents that Friday is inset day (that means no school) I would have never been informed by the school itself…Need to be on top of things with this school. But on the other hand I am still receiving emails from nursery!
